Robinson Crusoe on Sin Island

It's that time of year again - the AVN nominees were recently announced, and one of the titles that kept reappearing was Robinson Crusoe on Sin Island. The DVD received nominations for Best DVD, Best Foreign Feature, Best Foreign Actor (George Uhl), Best Director - Foreign Release (Alessandro Del Mar, who also wrote the film), Best Art Direction - Video, Best Videography, Best DVD Extras, Best Packaging, and Best On-Line Marketing Campaign. This is a Private production, so there are a few things that are given. The production value is high, and the nominations for art direction and videography are well deserved. The anal sex is rampant, and the women are stunning, but I wish they would take off more of their clothes. And, if you look closely, you'll see that the island just happens to be shaped like a woman. Hot damn! The music by Oreste Fiengo was also surprisingly good. Yeah, it's all off a synthesizer, but feels very period appropriate.

Nevertheless, there is one drawback to the women. As weird as it sounds, they are sometimes too beautiful. They do not always put that much energy into their performances, giving them the demeanor of prissy models. The sex can be downright mechanical at times because of this perceived emotional detachment. Worse, they constantly look directly into the camera. Yes, this is hot, but not in a feature film. By doing this, they break the fourth wall by acknowledging the viewer and detracts from the overall effect of the plot. The last thing I would like to see is something I probably never will in a porno, especially one from overseas. None of the actors are American, and English is obviously their second language. Because of this, their lines come across as awkward, and sometimes forced. I would really prefer to have them speak in their native language (which would make their performances seem more natural) and read the subtitles. Uhl is decent, but some of the women are just awful. It's not like the story or dialogue will get in the way of the sex. But again, this is a pipe dream.

And speaking of plot, chances are, few people watching this will have read the original Robinson Crusoe written by Daniel Defoe in 1719. It recounts the struggles of Crusoe, who was shipwrecked on a deserted island for nearly three decades after defying the wishes of his father and embarking on a seafaring career. During his sojourn on the island, he struggles with madness and turns to God. Robinson Crusoe is considered by many as the first English novel. Not exactly ideal fare for porn. But what most people know about Robinson Crusoe is that he was some guy stuck on an island. Del Mar takes this basic structure and works his story around it. Crusoe (Uhl) is on the run for the accidental murder of a man. Once on the island, he keeps a diary, and the first batch of scenes are him recounting the events that led to the murder and him reminiscing about sex. It's kind of a lazy way to add sex into a plot, only because it feels less organic and more random. Well, come to think of it, the entire movie is a flashback, so these are flashbacks within flashbacks. Sheesh, what is this, Arabian Nights? You can also tell that Del Mar is trying to add character depth with Crusoe's flashbacks. With little to do on the island, he alternates between good memories (sex), and the horrific ones of his crime. Unfortunately, this never goes anywhere in terms of character development.

This Crusoe (Uhl) is on his way to New York when shipwrecked on the coast of Brazil. With little to do on the island, he begins keeping a journal. He dreams about an encounter he and his friend Henry (Philip Dean) had with two women, Anne (Nikki Blond) and Stefanie (Cynthia). The scene moves pretty quickly. There's a minimal amount of foreplay, then oral sex. Because all this takes place inside a house, it was a bit darker than I would have preferred. Essentially, this scene consists of two couples having sex next to each other. Uhl is paired with Blond, and Dean with Cynthia. Del Mar switches between shots of both couples in frame, and ones of close-ups focusing on each couple individually. Once the sex begins, Blond rides Uhl reverse cowgirl and Cynthia gets it missionary and reverse cowgirl. They go through the typical position variations, soon switching from pussy to ass. Cynthia gets a facial, then she shares the other with Blond. I would have liked to see some lesbian action, and for the gals to take all their clothes off, but that didn't happen (aside from a kiss at the end).

There is some girl-on-girl action in the next scene, as he watches Sylvia Saint and Evelyn Strafford go at it in another daydream from Crusoe. Just to make sure he fully occupied, Lucy Love sucks his cock. Saint is the biggest name in Sin Island, and her name is one of the largest on the cover, but this is the only scene she is in. Worse, she doesn't get her freak on with Uhl; she only plays with Strafford. Still, there's a reason people love Saint, and she shows it here, beginning by fingers Strafford. Again, Del Mar has simultaneous sex on screen, with Love and Uhl in the foreground, and Saint, sitting on Strafford's face, in the background. The lighting is better than the first scene, but I still wish they would have opted for more rather than highlighting the couples. Strafford fingers Saint, then Saint goes down on her. While the two finger themselves, Love jacks Uhl off on her mouth. Love looks hot, and it's a shame you don't even get to see her tits.

Six years pass, and pirates now come to the island. This is similar to the first, since you have two couples going at it next to each other. Nikki Rider, Yvonne Peach, Kevin Long, and Lauro Giotto go at it on the beach, in the full glory of the sun. Both the women look pretty similar, and the guys do too. They begin with oral, move to reverse cowgirl and spoon, then the guys move from pussy to ass. The women switch partners, then there's a double penetration. and a facial for each woman. The scene was pretty short, but the best lit and hardest one yet. Del Mar also decided to focus a bit on the guys undressing the women, which was surprisingly erotic.

While those four were busy screwing, Sunday (Yokasta), their slave, escaped. She finds her way to Crusoe, who feeds her. You don't hear Sunday speak much, but she does walk around in little more than a loincloth. The upside of this is that she has an impressively large and well-shaped rack. There's another quick scene between Yokasta and Uhl. She blows him a bit, then they move from reverse cowgirl, spoon, and standing up before he cums on her face and her tits.

The story gets a bit muddled at this point. Mr. Condet (Giotto) and Maria Rackham (Rider) have kidnapped lovers Angelica (Jennifer S.- a Jennifer Aniston look-alike), and her wimpy beau Lord Chavellir (Francesco Malcom). For nor apparent reason, they all begin to screw. The ladies play with the men, then each one takes a cock in her mouth, kissing each other between licks. Angelica gets over her dislike for Condet and sits on her cock, then lefts him pound her missionary, while Chavellir plunges Rackham's ass. The guys switch and get their own woman, and now the action is all anal. After another switch, the guys cum in the girls' mouths, and the girls swap cum.

As the story further descends into near randomness, Captain Bonnet (Horst Baron) takes some time to fuck Annabel (Angel Dark). I love the way Dark's tits pop out over the top of her open shirt. This scene is very similar to the other one with Uhl and Dean and the one with Saint. Two couples go at it, but this time there is more lesbian action between the women.
